Better than Frozen Waffles

During the week we are so rushed that waffles are usually the frozen kind, but when I have the chance to break out the waffle maker, I do it in a heartbeat. Oatmeal waffles are a favorite in our house and especially a favorite of my daughter — “Mommy, you make better waffles than the frozen ones!”

Oatmeal Waffles


1-1/2 C flour (I use 1C whole wheat and 1/2C regular flour)

1 C quick cooking oats

2 TBLS brown sugar

1 TBL baking powder

1 tsp cinnamon (Generous!)

1/4 tsp salt

2 slightly beaten eggs

1 1/2 C milk

5 TBLS butter, melted



  1. In a large bowl stir together the first six ingredients.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients.
  3. Add wet ingredients to flour mixture, stir until just blended. Do not over mix.
  4. Cook in a waffle iron 5-6 minutes on high.
  5. Top with fruit and yogurt or warm Michigan maple syrup! Enjoy!

I also make extra waffles to freeze so we can have these on those rushed week day mornings!
