Recycle Your Old Electronics to Help a Child

E-CLUTTER FOR KIDS is a recycle-a-thon of electronic waste products to be collected at various sites throughout the community on three different days in April. This year’s dates are April 21, 22 and 27. This event coincides with the worldwide celebration of Earth Day on Sunday April 22.

This is a great way to help children who need speech and language rehabilitation but have no insurance coverage. By getting rid of a lot of un-needed “stuff”, you can make a difference for the kids. More than 65% of the recycle profits will go to designated speech pathology funds for children and families who require assistance.

All the funds raised go directly to the children! See this page for more about what you can drop off and where to do so.

Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Plan to fill your trunk with as much e-waste as possible and make a drop off on April 21, 22 or 27.
  2. Let family members, friends and neighbors know to do the same.
  3. Use your Facebook or other social networking to let people know of this fund raiser and encourage them to participate.
  4. If you know a business or company that has this type of e-waste, let them know that their waste can be picked up at no charge for this project.  They can email Katherine Groves, Associate Director, Children’s Miracle Network & Special Events (

A number of community organizations and businesses have already joined in. The Lions Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, First Words Society members, The Suburban Collection of car dealerships at the Troy Motor Mall, Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon, WDVD, 96.3 FM,  Statewide Recycling and Recovery, a number of Credit Unions, Whitlock Printing,  Beaumont’s IT Department, e-Title of Troy, Peter Basso Associates, etc.

Just imagine if everyone reading this participated and got others to take part in this project. That would add up to thousands of people with their e-waste who would show up to help the kids.  It would be awesome! What a great way to help Beaumont families in need.
