Yes, it’s been unbearably hot, but summer is a great time to explore the outdoors with your children. And nighttime temperatures make that prime time lately to do so. Nighttime? Yes, I’m talking camping.

The Great American Backyard Campout may have already passed, one-night nationwide event where thousands of families connect with one another and with nature. But you can still pitch a tent in your own backyard — or at a campground.

Dr. Richard Weiermiller, a pediatrician and internal medicine specialist at Beaumont Health System thinks that it’s also a good way to expose kids to healthy bacteria. Yes, as crazy as it sounds dirt can do them good.
