The Use of iPad Apps to Develop Speech and Language Skills

Portable electronic devices such as the iPad have literally changed the way we interact with the world, from social networking to work and entertainment. Mobile technology has also had a meaningful impact on the speech-language pathology field as numerous apps are available to help SLPs engage their patients with interactive care to meet their individualized goals for a variety of speech and language disorders. Children, in particular, are highly motivated by the use of these devices, and are able to engage with them for long periods of time.

The scope of these apps go far beyond the treatment setting as many parents are beginning to add them to their personal iPads for use with their children at home. Yet, with so many apps on the market today (and new ones seemingly being added daily), it is often hard to decide which ones to purchase. So, I thought it would be helpful to recommend some of the best speech and language apps, and break them down by category. You may want to do some research on your own before deciding what apps are best for you and your child(ren) as some can be fairly pricey.
